Dr Niall Ramsden to Lecture at Storage Tank and Fire Hazard Management Workshop
Following the success of the first ever bulk fuel storage and fire hazard management workshop held in South Africa in 2010, DoseTech Special Risk Fire Protection and Chemsystems are proud to once again host Dr Niall Ramsden as the keynote speaker at the “Storage Tank & Associated Facilities Fire Hazard Management Workshop” due to be held next in April 2014 and presented by Resource Protection International.
Having graduated in physics and mechanical engineering, Dr Niall Ramsden joined the loss prevention industry in 1976. Combining extensive practical experience with academic knowledge in the field of specialist Fire Hazard Management, he has been involved in all aspects of fire hazard management for the oil, gas and petrochemical sectors with particular emphasis on refineries and storage terminals.
He has worldwide experience in active and passive fire protection and detection systems to international standards – including conceptual studies, detailed design and system commissioning. Dr Ramsden has carried out training and consultancy projects for major oil and petrochemical companies around the world including fire and safety audits, process safety studies, scenario based emergency resource evaluations and in-house seminars.
As Director of Resource Protection International, an internationally recognised independent consultancy in this field, he has been responsible for developing and implementing much of current industry guidance and standards.
He is a Chartered Engineer, a Chartered Physicist and a member of the National Fire Protection Association (USA) and CEN (European)* Foam Systems Committees. He acted as Project Coordinator for the LASTFIRE Project and is currently fulfilling the same role for the LASTFIRE Update Project.
* The new European Foam Systems standard has now been published. It includes unique experience based guidance on large tank fire application rates.
Resource Protection International, a company within the Falck group, has been responsible for the development of much of the current industry best practice guidance in Storage Tank Safety.
DoseTech Special Risk Fire Protection have been supplying FireDos foam dosing and fire protection hardware to the African Petrochemical industry for the past 12 years. With the acquisition of the Akron Brass agency in 2010 and James Jones fire hydrants in 2011, DoseTech’s product range has grown substantially.
The objective of the “Storage Tank Fire Hazard Management Workshop” is to provide delegates with an in-depth knowledge of all aspects of designing, assessing and controlling fire hazards in flammable liquid storage tanks and is ideally suited to fire responders, fire engineers, loss prevention engineers, safety professionals and health, safety and environmental protection agencies.
The Institution of Fire Engineers has awarded 23 CPD hours to this programme for Continued Professional Development. The workshop includes course notes, classroom exercises and discussions which will be supported and complemented by case histories, video and slide presentations, as well as syndicated exercises. Just a few of the topics discussed include fire hazard management process and principles, risk reduction options for storage tanks and protection and design.
The next workshop is due to take place later in 2014. We will update further information shortly.
